Bookmarked: ICT-AGE: A study on strategies for the use of technologies in long term care DG EMPL has commissioned the Information Society Unit at JRCIPTS to develop long-term care strategies for the Member States. The strategies will be developed in a project called “ICT-AGE: longterm care strategies for the independent living of elderly people” which will run between May 2013 and September 2014. In ICT-AGE, the JRC-IPTS will study the implementation of ICT-based services that have increased the possibilities for elderly people to live independently at home, and also the productivity of carers and the quality of care delivery. For each ICT-based service, the research will identify and analyse the business case and model, the technological components, the technical standards and norms, the quality evaluation of the service and its transferability. The research team will use a case-by-case methodology based on a literature review, interviews with stakeholders and on a consultation workshop. At the end of the project, the JRC-IPTS will deliver a manual with guidelines for the Member States on how to implement long-term care strategies to increase the possibilities of older adults to continue living independently at home with the use of technologies. Intermediate results include a mapping of good practices of ICT-based services for independent living, and a report with the case studies. This research will help the European Commission to suggest policies to the Member States in response to the growth of the needs of the elderly, to ensure the access to long-term care, to secure the quality of care and to maintain financial sustainability as regards care delivery. The research has, in fact, been recently highlighted in the Social Investment Package. JRC-IPTS has previously conducted research into long-term care and developed projects on ICT for domiciliary care (i.e. CARICT).
